June 25th MISCELLANY!
Jun. 25th, 2012 08:49 am- Today the Supreme Court ruled again that "corporations are people, my friend." They also ruled that, while most of the Arizona immigrant law is unconstitutional, it is still okay for police to hassle brown people. Last but not least, they ruled that it is unconstitutional to sentence a juvenile to life without parole for murder.
- Chicago goes back to the drawing board after a judge rules that being convicted of illegally owning a firearm is not sufficient to deny a gun permit. Which, frankly, should have been obvious after McDonald.
- The US Conference of Catholic Bishops is calling for a two-week prayer vigil for religious freedom, which would sound better if it wasn't code for the freedom of the Bishops to deny basic health care to female employees and their families.
- One of my favorite blogs points out that the Federal Healthy Marriages Initiative is in fact a colossal waste of money.
