You're not gonna fucking believe what Donald Rumsfeld actually said.

“One thing that is very interesting, it seems to me, is that there really hasn’t been any indication from the administration as to what our national interest is with respect to this particular situation,” Rumsfeld said in an interview with Fox News’s Neil Cavuto.

Got that? Rumsfeld says that President Obama hasn't made the case for war with Syria.

Rumsfeld.

You know, the Rumsfeld that helped the previous administration lie, lie, lie, lie, lie their way into an unnecessary and expensive boondoggle of a war.

Take a minute to reel from the shock.

Done? Good. Now then...the thing is, he's right. The Obama administration hasn't argued for why a war with Syria is in our national interest. The case for war so far has been humanitarian, and frankly, the war-weary American public just isn't inclined to give a shit right now. Nor should they be. The role of world police is overblown, and in any case, it only really served as a fig leaf for when the United States waged wars (or staged coups) that were strictly in their national interest.

Syria is the top story in the American media. But, I think most Americans are deeply conflicted as to what to do next. As this satirical piece in The Onion points out, America is over a barrel on this one. I can only hope that this is the deciding nail in the coffin of the United States' march to empire.

After the reported gas attack I'm going to believe that.
But before, you could get the impression it's far off leading thoughts. War calls on Iran seemed a lot louder over the years.
- Well, but maybe this impression had also been deceiving from abroad.

Somehow I can't laugh about this Onion article. I know it's making its best out of the information Western media lets come through, but I can't laugh about it if I summon which opposite Eastern media tells about the war and what videos of the rebels tell silently.

Not to be cruel, but...

...I think we need to ask the question, "Why should we (censored) care?"

How is it that people might be killing each other in Syria with chemical weapons and yet we mostly yawned when people were hacking each other up with machetes in Africa not to long ago?

Humans are hateful to humans the world over; when did it become our job to police it all? Even more to the point, there are the Iraqis, the Saudis, the Turks in the area who could be more helpful. Hell even the Israelis could help but we'd all know that would make things much worse.

My point is it seems after the U.S. spends more than the next 14 largest military spenders combined that there are elements who just can't all that military hardware not being used.

Which makes me suspicious that there are elements worried we'll look at the bloated DoD budget and start making drastic cuts.
