Monday MISCELLANY!
Jun. 18th, 2012 03:58 pm- Justin Raimondo on Rand Paul's betrayal of Ron Paul.
- Looks like war is brewing between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria. More fall-out from the Libya war?
- Via a friend comes this shocking report that the median household wealth is back where it was in 1989. This is almost entirely due to the fact that real estate values have nose-dived. For wealthier households - the kind of households that buy stocks and such - wealth has increased substantially. The Economist calls this a lesson in the importance of diversification - which is great as long as you forget that diversification is itself only possible with wealth. Who has money to buy stocks when you can't afford rent?
- I didn't know that Balkan's Arcane Bindings existed until now. Must read.
- What happened to the rule of the lone liberal blogger? Kos reflects on this here. There's also the fact that, really, the leftie bloggosphere is so interconnected now that the points are often being made better somewhere else. And then there's the fact that everyone's reading FaceBook instead of LiveJournal. (And get off my lawn!)
- An Alabama high school recently decided to lift their ban on earrings on male students; MSNBC has asked, via FaceBook, whether this is a step in the right direction. For my money, the answer is "no." I'd rather see jewelry banned altogether, because I'm tired of the phenomenon of high-school-as-fashion-show. (On the other hand, I'm not necessarily fond of uniforms, either, since they don't really help kids' academic performance (2).)
