Tuesday Miscellany!
Dec. 24th, 2013 08:27 am- Snowden says his work is done. Note the Electronic Freedom Foundation sticker on his laptop.
- Israel is bombing the shit out of Gaza now. Just thought you'd like to know.
- Senators Durbin, Reed and Elizabeth Warren are pushing for colleges to have skin in the student loan game. In a nutshell: if the student defaults, the college pays a penalty. This should encourage colleges to (1) better inform their students about student loans, (2) keep their tuition hikes under control, damnit, (3) seek institutional changes that improve graduation rates. Damnit.
- Red Lobster and other "casual dining" are in danger of going away sometime in 2015. Why? Two reasons I can think of: (1) chains like Chipotle and Subway offer better food than McDonald's for less money than Red Lobster, putting casual dining out of a niche; (2) people are broke.
- Astronomers believe they've located another moon - this one is 1600 light years away, orbiting a planet around another star. Yowza!
- 40 heavy metal bands, 2000 fans, on a cruise ship from Florida to Mexico and back. Maybe it's because I've watched too many SyFy Originals, but this just doesn't seem like a good idea.
