* Call your Congressional representative at 202 224 3121. Tell them, "Like most Americans, I support single payer health care. Please support single payer health care."

* Repeat for your Senator.

* Repeat for your other Senator.

* Crack open a beer; enjoy. (Optional but a good idea.)

Repeat every day from now until President Obama signs a health reform bill into law.

(Alternatively, if you support a public option for health insurance reform, try this: "According to a recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, 75% of Americans want a public option for health care. I am one of them. Please support a strong public option, so that we Americans can get the health care we need. Thank you.")

The GOP is trying to stall the budget process in order to kill some of Obama's programs. As is usual for such fights, they're operating through proxies, and so RedState is targeting Blue Dog Democrats to try to derail the budget. Specifically, these five:

1.  Alan Boyd of Florida
2.  Bob Etheridge of North Carolina
3.  Charlie Melancon of Louisiana
4.  Chet Edwards of Texas
5.  John Yarmuth of Kentucky

Call them now at 202 224 3121 and tell them you want them to pass Obama's budget as proposed, no pork, and especially with no rebooting.

Do this now. The vote will be tonight.

Pastordan came up with a brilliant idea:

This is so simple you'll puke.

1. Get yourself a key ring and 7 or 10 old housekeys.

2. Go to the nearest John McCain event.

3. Hold them up and jingle them. Loud. Extra points if you can do this when the man himself is speaking.

4. When somebody asks you what you're doing, tell them you're just helping Johnny Boy remember how many houses he and his super-fantabulously wealthy wife own.

5. Send me an e-mail and a picture of the reaction you get. If you get arrested, I'll make sure Kos pays your bail.* I'll post the responses as time allows.

Extra points, of course, for clever variations on the theme and/or provoking massively disproportionate responses.

Now get out there. You know who the rat is, and you know what must be done.

*This promise will not be honored.

Get to work kids.

If you're one of the folks going to the DNC Rules Committee meeting in DC on 5/31 (you know -- the meeting where they're deciding whether to seat the Florida and Michigan delegations), you need to read this. In particular:

A Note on Public Participation

This meeting is open to the public, however due to space constraints, guests are being asked to pre-register their attendance. Registration will open online at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 27. Members of the public wishing to register should fill out the form at the following link: http://www.democrats.org/rbcmeeting . Those lacking Internet access who would like to pre-register can do so by calling 202-479-5137.

Guest credentials are limited to one per person. For those who register, a confirmation message will be sent to the e-mail address indicated on the registration form. Registrants must bring that confirmation e-mail, along with a photo ID, in order to pick up their guest credential.

Credentials must be picked up at registration tables located outside the meeting room between 8:00-9:30 AM on May 31st in order to guarantee a seat. If reserved credentials are not picked up by 9:30 AM, they will be released and given out to other members of the public.

Same Day Registration

If a member of the general public is unable to pre-register, limited same-day registration will be available. Same-day guest credentials will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis and are limited to one per person. Individuals with a same day guest credential will be allowed into the meeting as space permits.

Additional Information

In order to maintain the decorum of the meeting, banners, posters, signs, handouts, and noisemakers of any kind are strictly prohibited. Also, please be advised that the agenda for the meeting does not include time for questions from the general public.

IMPORTANT: The Obama campaign has asked people NOT to hold any sort of demonstration outside the rules committee on their behalf, no matter how well-intentioned or peaceful. If you really want to help out, the "official counter-demonstration" is a Voter Registration Drive in Northern Virginia. Contact DKos member slinkerwink (via pleasehelpfreebarneythedog at gmail) for details.

And for that matter, there's all kinds of stuff going on on May 31st if you really want to channel that anger/frustration/etc. into something productive. Portlanders and Vancouverites, for example, might want to attend this. And of course, there's always MBO.

How? Why? Read all about it here.

Incidentally, if you're looking for ways to help Obama win Oregon, [livejournal.com profile] rowan_ashe is definitely the person to contact.

It's been quite a productive day on The Pill Saves. I'm quite pleasantly surprised at the number of people who are stepping up to testify, and by how compelling their stories are.

One example is Amanda's story. In her case, the pill is basically the only thing that prevents another life-threatening battle with anemia. That, apparently, is a "minor benefit" according to the American Life League.

Then there's Diane, for whom the pill was a savior from being permanently stuck in an unwanted life as a young mother. Not to mention an eye-opening experience.

The stories keep rolling in, so I'm going to keep posting them. Thanks for everyone who's already participated, and for everyone who shall participate in the future.

All 29 West Coast ports shut down yesterday as workers went on strike to protest the Iraq war.

Believe me, the people who own this country were paying attention to that. Even if the straight media ignored it.

The deadline to register to vote in Oregon is April 29th. If you want to vote in the Oregon Democratic Primary (for either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton), you must be registered as a Democrat in the State of Oregon.

Also, if you have recently moved -- even if it was just to a different apartment in the same building -- you must re-register at your new address if you want to vote.

You can register here.

Pass it on!

Today, the Senate votes on a bill to give the Bush Administration carte blanche for their repeated violations of the FISA act. Senator Dodd is expected to filibuster the bill, and Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will be there to assist in the fight. Even Senator Harry Reid says he will support the filibuster with his "no" vote on cloture.

We still need three Senators to join the filibuster, and we need to let the Senate know that we do not support illegal wiretaps. This is, after all, a Democratic Republic with a Constitution that is supposed to limit the powers of the government, but it will only remain so with our help.

In particular, we need one of these Senators to join the filibuster:

# Bayh (202) 224-5623
# Carper (202) 224-2441
# Inouye (202) 224-3934
# Johnson (202) 224-5842
# Landrieu (202)224-5824
# McCaskill (202) 224-6154
# Mikulski (202) 224-4654
# Nelson (FL) (202) 224-5274
# Nelson (NE) (202) 224-6551
# Pryor (202) 224-2353
# Salazar (202) 224-5852

If your Senator isn't on the list, call them anyway. You can find your Senators via the US Senate Home Page, or via Congress.org.

Get going! Your five minutes of work could make a big difference for generations to come.

Stop the Spying!
